Guidelines for Club Publications:

All articles from Committee Chairs to promote upcoming WCSL sponsored events or highlight past ones should be sent to the attention of the Communications Chairs.
Before the article,  note either ‘For Immediate Release’ where every effort should be made to meet the weekly deadline of the Coast Star (typically Mondays) or if the announcement shouldn’t be posted until a certain date, indicate the date.

The article as written by the Committee Chair or designated person should include the following information and address the five “W’s”:
Title- Name of the event
Who- Include the Club’s name (WCSL)
What- Brief description of the event
When- Date and time of the event
Where- Place where the event will be held, including how the public can contact the club for more information (names, email, phone, etc.)
Why- Purpose of the event/program, such as charity or service, benefits to be gained

Other suggestions for writing an article:
1.      The lead paragraph should communicate essential key points.
2.      Be brief, clear and make it easy to read.
3.      It is helpful to include 1-2 quotes in the release from a club leader when appropriate.  The quote could state why the event is meaningful and garner enthusiasm.

Pictures Speak a Thousand Words:
1.      Include 1-2 very clear (preferably action photos) with a few people and identify people in the photo (from left to right).
2.      Pictures submitted must include the name of who took the picture (per Coast Star guidelines).
3.      In order to facilitate an article being submitted for an event, consider having (or have) the Committee's picture taken before the event.
If a Committee Chair would like a representative from The Coast Star to attend a particular event, please advise in advance so that arrangements can be made.
As The Coast Star publishes weekly on Thursday, the deadline for submission is by end of day Monday.
